Does anyone know if there is a gate and if it is locked during the winter leading up to Serpent Lake Trailhead to access Jicarita?
Does anyone know if the road leading to Santa Barbara is locked during the winter as well?

Call the forest service, Camino Real Ranger District 575.587.2255. The forest service has always given me accurate information regarding road closures. Although, I've never called this district.

I had a hard time getting a hold of anyone. Their office is closed and they return messages periodically.
Anyways, we went none the less. For future reference the gate is locked where 161 starts from the pavement. The gates are locked January 1-May 1.
Little to no snow in the alpine. 2-3 feet of snow in the trees between 11,000-12,000 ft. We need ALOT of snow to be thinking about skiing up high!
