Still some nice lines in CO

Post by Kerry »

If looking for places to ski as we approach the first day of summer, I think you'll find the goods on the northern Collegiate peaks, and peaks around Independence Pass. On June 7, I climbed up La Plata Pk intending to ski from the summit, but was chased off by lightning about 800' and 3/4-mi shy of the summit on the NW ridge. Still had an enjoyable ski down on nice corn while fresh snow and graupel was falling. Lots of walking to get to snow, until you find a firm cornice to travel on. You can still ski from the road around Indie pass. Lots of snow even on southerly aspects NE of the pass.
Meadow Skipper, the La Plata summit ski is still on my bucket list, motivated in part by the photos of you and others skiing off La Plata years ago.
