Taos snow analysis across Williams trail from the Fingers

Post by Kerry »

Wind event in TSV area on Sunday-Monday with winds reported over 50 mph primarily from NE, different from normal prevailing direction, hammered most slopes and moved a lot of snow. The tested slope did not appear near as affected by wind as surrounding slopes, had blower pow. Due to HS, did not get down to the depth hoar, which is now deeply buried, and probably below a skier's pressure (but not below the pressure of a slide).
The line on SW aspect of Wheeler is looking about as good as it gets, might be skiable from summit. The chokes on Sin Nombre's north aspect also appear to have enough snow to ski.
