Re: Taos Region
We haven't seen much avi activity, actually. The storm settled out and tests aren't delivering SC or SP, but that doesn't mean it's a green light. It's looking awesome in Taos, just wish the rest of NM was a lucky. Lines are getting dropped off the West bank off Wheeler's north running ridge to Fraz...

Re: Taos Region
Took a fun tour up to one of New Mexico‘s finest five star 2000 foot consistent 35° slopes yesterday. RJ and I were able to gain easy road access to Cabresto Lake. Lots of post holing on the way there as well as hiking on bare terrain in order to reach the west face escarpment of Cabresto. It’s defi...

Re: Taos Region
Lots of folks out today enjoying the powder and the sun. Ring, Pinky, and Hidden got dropped as well as the NW Flank of Sin Nombre. All these have different problems. Polygeneity is the term that comes to mind today. It’s likely a fine line in some of the NTL and ATL areas, but it skis really well. ...

Re: BMG Avalanche Courses 2020-2021
Only two more open Avi courses for this season are in March. It's been a very busy season for us and we appreciate your patience in us opening up more courses through this season. We've seen skiable conditions in all of our courses, albeit a bit bony. But now there's more snow on the ground and the ...

That’s interesting, but I’m wondering why anybody would be in the watershed?

Re: Taos Region
It’s been rather boring in the snow pits, so getting mileage in Has been more of the priority. The only thing that’s of clinical interest is the fact that the cold temperature regime continues to drive the faceting process and cannibalizing older non-persistent grains. Fist hardness of >50 cm in mos...

Re: Taos Region
There's a LOT of variability out there. Pit results showing mostly BRK or PC results on all aspects BTL/TL. West exposed aspects looks like some of the more sporadic areas of the reported NE-SE aspects with a wind affected layer that you'd need a chainsaw to get through. It would take a Gas-X to bre...

Re: BMG Avalanche Courses 2020-2021
We've opened up a few more courses and spread people out to keep ratios low. I've worked hard to get all of our curriculum online, coupled with some Zoom sessions) and we'll be out in the field for 2 solid days for all of our avi courses this year. I think this model works really well, but it's been...

Re: Taos Region
Great reports, Kerry ~ nothing like a right side up cake! Propagation is not as likely across the variable SPX as previously thought, and the hazard seems a shade less than what one might think, but those wind slabs forming could bring some question to various locations, especially in more complex t...

Re: Taos Region
Shooting cracks in specific areas = low ?!?
Perhaps this was settlement that came before they arrived?
I’d agree with you in questioning that rating in this zone.
