Re: Santa Fe Region

Booya. Super helpful information from cushionnn. For me, observations that go into layer madness and snowpack tests are lost. Now, from 3500miles away, and a hope of being in the 505 before March, I've got a pretty good idea of what is going on. Skiing is well within reason from summit to parking lo...

Re: Santa Fe Region

Oye huevones! How about some reports on height of snow across the Santa Fe zone, and height of storm snow for any events to come? This would be incredibly valuable information being that the Ski Santa Fe snow report is heavily biased and the Santa Fe Snotel appears to be down since 2021-01-01. If yo...

Re: Four Corners Snow and Avalanche Workshop

What a relief. Finally a sign up from Taos. I know, Breckenridge and CSAW are about the same drive time (and easier) as the trip to Silverton and 4SAW, but you do know where the Rio Grande starts, right? About 7 miles east of Silverton, just over Kendall Peak across Cunningham Gulch on the backside ...

Re: Truchas

I did not question my decisions as I staggered out through pissing trees and hail from an 11 hour Truchas ski excursion. Touchy loose wet avalanches to size D1.5 were found on W-NW-N aspects Near and Above Treeline. These avalanches were easily triggered by ski cuts in 35-40° terrain at 11:45 and co...

Re: Taos Region

To sum up the above post, it appears a variety of tests produced a variety of results. These results may, or may not, give an indication of the snowpack's strength and energy, yet it appears that the snowpack's structure is poor, largely, due to basal facets. Strength, structure, and energy all cont...
