Re: San Juans are in spring mode

I spent a couple days touring in Mineral/Porphery Basin two weekends ago after the smaller storm and before the bigger storm hit that Sunday (3/18). We found S aspects even above 10K rocky/bare and not worth riding. NE/NW aspects held good snow and we scored pow that Friday (3/16). 5390FC2B-0E57-472...

Re: Taos Ski Valley/Wheeler Peak Region

Anyone riding lines since the storm? Wondering if they are in or just full of sharks.

Re: Nambe - 2018

Thanks for the report! I've been wondering how this area has been filling in. Looks like we're 2' away from being able to ride some lines. sound about right?

Re: Santa Fe Region

Good post. I didn't mean to associate the two and I appreciate you pointing out that they are separate entities which I was aware of but clearly made an incorrect association. Also agree that their info should be used to compliment findings at actual locations. I think they're doing a great job for ...

Re: Santa Fe Region

I'm not sure about the windslab honestly. Maybe the temps were cold enough for it not to form? Really don't know, just relaying what we observed but agree that would be the leeward side so you would expect it.

Re: Santa Fe Region

Great meeting you and Graham yesterday Dan, I was the snowboarder in the green jacket who chatted with you at the fence after the grueling return. The group I was with dug a pit on an almost true easterly aspect yesterday near the summit of SF baldy. We dug about a meter down and observed very consi...

Re: Santa Fe Region

Has anyone skied the nambe chutes this week? I'm guessing there might be a decent wind slab that has formed but just curious if anyone has skied it or seen any lines after the cycle finished.

Re: Santa Fe Region

I skied heaven's hill with two friends yesterday which was deep and light all the way to the Windsor. Winds were blowing hard from west->east up the Nambe bowl depositing large amounts of snow on east facing aspects. I didn't see any tracks in the chutes today and it seemed like lots of people were ...

Avy 1/2 Classes?

I know it's a little early still but have any of the local Avy 1 or 2 classes been scheduled already? Just looking for some info to start planning.

Thanks

Re: Truchas

I went and rode a line on the Trampas side last weekend. The approach down low is pretty bare and you're going to do a lot of walking to get back into the cirque. We walked for about 3 miles to a north facing line I'd spotted coming out earlier this winter and spent most of the day skinning up that ...

Re: Taos Ski Valley Region

Has anyone been out in this area recently? I'd like to check out some new spots, not really sure where to go but I'd be interested to see how the snowpack is currently holding up now that the snow seems to have stopped.

Re: Truchas

I toured up in that area April 8-10 and we used that trip report as a guide to approach. It is a LONG 7 mile approach just to get to Trampas lakes. There was enough snow about two miles up from the trailhead and we were able to start skinning. We camped about a mile from the lakes then skinned up a ...
