Jr and I are planning to ski Nambe/Penitente on Monday. I'll leave Abq around 6-6:30am if anyone else wants to join. Weekend skiers, please post conditions.

Nambe conditions

Postby Kerry » Tue May 04, 2010 10:01 am

What a beautiful day in the Nambe on Monday, May 3. The north aspects held light powder all day. (We left the bowl around 2:30pm.) Skied down Styx (N aspect), and Guph (WSW aspect). Entry to Styx was a very wind scoured melt-freeze crust, but after dropping about 50' of vert it held wonderful powder. Attempted to ski the backside of Guph (E aspect), but found the base was not very frozen and the top fresh snow (about 8-10cm) slid very easily from ski cut. Was surprised by the relative lack of snow on NW aspect of Penitente. Snow stability in the Nambe appeared good. No settling under foot. Only sluff we released was small and in Guph just after noon. Despite a fair amount of graupel in the fresh, the new snow is bonding well. Skinned all the way out on Styx with a firm skin line, which may pose an obstacle to skiing the same line in next few days. Lots of snow: http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/Ws ... directlink

Memorial Day in the Nambe Chutes

Postby markfd19 » Tue Jun 01, 2010 12:58 pm

Skied a tree line just down ravens ridge from Nambe Chutes. Good run but kinda survival skiing. Still enough snow in the boot pack chute for a ski, too. Melting fast up there.
