Avy Forecast from Idaho

Someone up in Idaho sent this my way. It's been in my inbox for a while, thought I would share...

This is Chris Lundy with the Sawtooth National Forest Avalanche Center with General Snow and Weather Information on Friday, December 5, 2008.

This information will be updated as conditions warrant.

Breaking News - Sun Valley, Idaho (AP)
Many folks are worried about their jobs these days, and avalanche forecasters in Southcentral Idaho are no exception. Although they’re not immune to the current economic woes, the more immediate threat to their jobs is not a lack of green but rather white.

As a result, avalanche forecasters across the west are going to congress to request a bailout package. To avoid appearing hypocritical, they will leave their corporate jets behind and instead slap on skis and skin all the way to the nation’s capitol. Experts expect the arrival of the contingency in Washington DC sometime in mid-March.

Their proposed bailout package includes an audacious request for above average snowfall for the next five winters. Congress is expected to ask the forecasters what they will do with such large amounts of snow, citing examples of squandering such snowfall during the past winters. In response, the avalanche specialists have put together an aggressive plan that includes more field time and a campaign to encourage the public to get into the backcountry more.

And now back to your regularly scheduled program.
