annual Nambe Chutes excursion

Postby scotthsu » Thu Apr 17, 2008 5:08 pm

Had a nice wintry excursion this morning. Skinned up Ski Santa Fe leaving the parking area around 8am. Snow was coming down pretty good; there was about 1" of fresh on top of nasty frozen crust. Skied down Nambe Chute N, one to a few inches of soft snow on top of a very hard surface. Snow was more pleasant to ski lower down. Visibility was poor as the snow was still coming down. We descended the Nambe drainage (some fun turns in the trees) and found the Winsor Trail around 10600' and skinned out. There was about 3-4" of powder in the parking area by the time we got there around 12pm, and it was still coming down on and off. I'm guessing some fun powder turns can be had Friday AM.

Owen, Abigail and I went skinning today [4/17/08] too. We set out for the Nambé or maybe Heaven's Hill, but that was all totally socked in by the storm and would have been like skiing in a milk bottle, so we went back to the ski area and did a couple of laps in the trees. Pretty nice for the second half of April:

It was a lovely day. Friday should be good too - go get it.
