Another year, another season

Postby Bob » Fri Aug 24, 2018 12:35 pm

Time for a fresh conditions forum for 18/19. Goodness knows, it's got to be better this coming season than last <knock on wood>.

I'm ready.

A good start to the year, got some inbounds turns with the family at Wolf Creek yesterday. Great fall colors on the drive up.

I was up at Wolf Creek yesterday too. Decent base (remember it is October), skinned 3 laps up treasure, worth the drive and effort, not worth the $50 lift ticket price to me.

found some soft powder skiers right on Alberta face, Alberta peak west side had many tracks so did Prospector bowl.

Skiing on groomers was like spring skiing, early it was crunchy, softened up when the sun came out (and skied really nice), but hardened when clouds moved in. Still several holes in the snow pack (one right off of treasure lift) and rocks sticking out, did not want to risk my health trying out Prospector or Alberta (even if it looked tempting).

Don't have pictures on this computer, will try to post some later.

I saw one person skinning, must have been you, kudos! I hit Alberta face several times (quite nice, and hit rocks only once) but also opted for health rather than exploring the terrain near and beyond the Peak, etc.

went back today to wolf creek. The 7 inches that fell seems to be pretty dense snow and filled in the holes pretty good.

Very spring like conditions.... in the morning, sticked to groomers (2 laps), around 11 things soften up really well and Alberta face skied awesome (another 2 laps). Again, didn't go to the ridge, but talked to a ski patroller: still a little punchy according to him... but may be nice when it softens up. left around 1pm, it was tshirt weather by then.

Saw one person skinning up torwards lobo overlook from the pass parking lot... could have been a CAIC person, south and east facing slopes look pretty thin, not sure if there is anything worth skiing up there. Down fall is pretty bad up there.

Hi Bob! I see that Ski Santa Fe is reporting 10" this morning! Please let us know if/when things become skin/skiable up there! Cheers.

Checked the webcam and it looks like fresh turns on the quad cam. Looks pretty nicely covered. My guess up high is the best with a good base underneath. Hike the bottom, ski the top.

Just be aware that they will be making snow this weekend. Stay away from the maschines and be careful. Don't want to lose our opportunity to skin in the area!
