Bull of the Woods Trail

Postby mpirkle » Sun Mar 25, 2018 1:35 pm

Hey y'all,

A group of friends and I are heading up to the Bull of the Woods yurt in the next week. I was wondering if anyone had been on the trail recently and could give me some information about the conditions as the last update on the website was from March 8th. Is there enough snow along the trail to skin/snowshoe up? Most of my friends would be needing to rent snowshoes, and I didn't want it to be a waste of money for them if they could just walk up in hiking boots.

Thanks!

Much of the upper half of the trail has melted out after holding snow for only a few days at a time during February, lower half has some icy patches where water flows down the trail and there's some slick snowpacked sections leading to the Long Canyon entrance. Snowshoes aren't necessary although the cleats may help cross the icy sections, along the meadow to the yurt and above there's enough snow they would be useful.
