Dug a pit on skier's left just above the roll-over near the top of Nuther Mother (3pm):
aspect: NE
angle: ~25 deg (Nuther Mother reaches ~30 deg)
0 (ground) to 10 cm: classic Rocky Mtn depth hoar, very sugary
10 to 40 cm: the hardpack we've been skiing on for a few weeks, finger hardness
40 to ~75 cm: unconsolidated new powder, fist hardness, no slab formation (yet)
tap test: 10 (failed at 40 cm)
shovel shear: broke at 40 cm, Q2
no signs of whumpfing, top powder layer surprisingly unaffected by wind, wonder what it will do tonight.
